What do I always tell you about debuts? Haha man, see you don’t wanna mess with debuts songs, cos it’s always where you get the best from an artist, you get to feel their raw talent and just enjoy their fresh energy and vibes. Well I’ve got Backstrom here, who has got this raw emotional captivating debut single for us dubbed “Animal,” and man o man, I can’t stress enough how good of a song it is. What’s beautiful about this song is, it’s acts a teaser to his upcoming album titled, “The Carousel.” In case you don’t know, Backstrom does the all the songwriting and also the leader of the band, and then collaborates with a talented group of session musicians to bring his vision to life. On this single he featured Bart Thoper, who did all those amazing vocals that soothes your ears and gives you this orgasmic feel when you listen to this song. Not only did he feature on this song but also the upcoming album, and he did it fot eight tracks, while Fransisco Paz’s dynamic drumming and percussion work provide a solid backbone. Luca Giannotti’s guitar expertise shines on the folkier tunes, complemented by Kimberly Faith’s harmonies on six songs and just then you know that album is worth it and there’s a song for everyone so get ready and let’s dive in.
Now this song “Animal” is a beautiful soulful track that goes deep into the fundamental nature of the human psyche. What’s beautiful about this song is how it explores the darkness and complexity that lurks within us. Like the song hints at an unknown part of you which you don’t know, it tells you that there’s an animal inside there you have no idea of and I love how it makes you think deep and make self analysis to try and find that part of you that is dark. Wow, such an amazing tune set against this haunting instrumentation, which adds depth and opens your mind to seek beyond yourself and explore yourself beyond your skin. Then as the song goes on, it makes you realize that the new part of you discovered shouldn’t come as a surprise cos it’s what you’ve always been. There’s no need to hide that side of you, cos you don’t know when it will consume you or erupt and affect the people around you, whatever you do, just know you can be unleashed and you can’t hide it from yourself. Everyone to their own dark sides, could be lies, thefts, secrets and a bad behavior you can’t deal with it, but just know it’s part of you and don’t be surprised when it’s unleashed. I love the song and man, I can’t get enough of it, the way it consumes you and strikes your soul just when you hit that play button is magnificent. See what’s soo special about the song is those haunting melodies and evocative lyrics, then the way it was delivered with precision and accuracy is wholesome, and it really helps the listener to resonate with it deeply. We all have our inner demons, there’s a beast in there that’s untamed and when it’s unleashed just know that’s who you’ve always been. So tame that beats before it consumes you. One may ask what inspired the Backstrom to make such music, well with influences from Leonard Cohen to Mark Lanegan, I say they make music that is both timeless and contemporary, from classic rock icons like the Rolling Stones, this song “Animal” carry a brave, authentic vibe that resonates with listeners on a different level, so yeah that’s your answer. When you listen carefully you realize how this song is soo different from anything you’ve heard and that’s why you should give it a listen.
