5 min read

When life takes it turn on you and you need something, a source of hope, an energy to keep you going and keep believing even in your darkest moments and you have no one then I say don’t worry cos I’ve got the perfect songs to cheer you up and keep you sane. I always tell you guys, debuts are something you should never miss and man this EP I’ve got here from Erik Hansen, is all you need and he called this one “Seasons of the Wind.” An EP that marks a thrilling new chapter in the Washington-based musician’s career as he steps out from his band Fallen Angels to embark on a solo journey. The moment you hit the play button on the first track, you realize how diverse Hansen is, with the way he infuses his crafts with storytelling and infuses different musical elements into his compositions. Well with Influences by the thrashy guitar sounds of bands like Nirvana and The Offspring from his childhood, as well as the classic rock vibes of AC/DC, Deep Purple, and Metallica, I say this EP is a respect to the rock genre in its purest form. With five tracks that touches on themes of space exploration, mortality, and resilience, “Seasons of the Wind” indeed has a track for everyone and trust me, it’s sure gonna resonate with you deeply with its rich and vibrant beats. So gear up and let’s smash this one.

Now setting the stage for the whole EP is the opening track, “The Road”. This song tho, just marvelous and intriguing with the amount of details to sound and textures in there, then just when you think you’ve heard it all, you’re allowed to enjoy this amazing sounds then the vocals kicks in to soak you into the atmosphere the song has created. The song paints a clear picture of introspection and resilience. When life seems to get the better of you and everything seems to crumble before your eyes, their song talks about these things, the ups and downs of life. A journey through the road, some parts maybe smooth and lovely, while some parts may also be bumpy and tough. When you listen to the song, you realize how he lyrics Hansen’s words portray a sense of determination and loyalty, as he vows to stand by those who stand by him. With lines like “hold me where I stand” hinting at a desire for support and companionship along life’s struggles and uncertainties. The song is awesome and I love how it evokes this spirit of never give up and pushes you to keep going while giving you enlightenment of how the journey may be.

Just when the road to the journey has been drawn and shown, you get the track titled “Send Me a Sign.” This song brings the essence of the 90s punk with its thrashy sound and modern production, and becomes a rallying cry to anyone going through life’s toughest moments, I dig the vibe of this song soo much, cos it speaks of some situations I’m going through. Sometimes life can be cruel and just take away your life support away without you being able to do a damn about it. Like at least it should have given you a sign, it should have send you sign, but nope it does what it wanna do anytime it wants. That is life, and when you think it’s all over and you really need that urge, that power, that support and you not finding it, then everything seems to crumble before you. When you’re about giving up and you just asking nature to just send you a sign, for you’re lost or at your lowest and you need that direction on the road when you’re at a junction with soo many branches. Man, Hansen really cooked with this one and I love how he adds elements of folk and poetry into this one and the whole EP.

After the storm, one needs a calm environment to ponder and question and find some answers and that’s where this beautiful track titled “Horizon” comes in. This song is just wholesome, calm, has this country and blues vibes that I love soo much. The song just touches on themes of searching and longing. With the lyrics a clear picture of the purpose of your journey, like a quest for meaning and fulfillment, as life throws all of its struggles at you, you wonder and question why? Why this problems, why this uncertainties, you had your plans but why am I going through this ? See the EP was beautifully arranged, from track one to the last track, they all just follow the storyline and that makes it intriguing and amazing, making it different from the trash people been cooking these days. This track is an adventure and exploration after you’ve been through the bumpy road and have asked for a sign and you’re now at a destination, this track let’s you explore and find answers. It gives hope and resilience, strengthening you to go on and reach your final destination. I could go on and talk about all the tracks, but I want you to go take feel the beauty of this EP, especially the last song that ends the EP, the forever dream everyone wants, man I’m soo soaked in the EP’s atmosphere and I love it.

Well, “Seasons of the Wind” really surprised me and I must say it really up there with the best of the best, the lyrics, storyline, storytelling topped with a master delivery, it’s safe to say it’s a solid 10/10 project. A masterpiece that deserves your ears, top notch production and it’s really a promising debut from Erik Hansen. He really cooked this one, from the track’s arrangement to their message and sounds, wow, absolutely perfect. So go ahead and give this EP a listen and enjoy something good for your weekend. ENJOY!!
