Man I always say, sometimes I wonder how people are able to create music with just sounds and musical elements without any vocals and yet it’s emotional and really strikes the soul. I know sometimes you also wonder right, well I have a beautiful album here from Sound Liberation, led by visionary composer Gene Pritsker, who continues to break genre boundaries with their latest endeavor, the Di.J Quartet. One may wonder but why? Well Sound Liberation’s mission is to create a musical experience that effortlessly blends different influences, from classical to jazz, hip-hop to rock, and beyond. So yeah there’s your answer, and wow, this album dubbed “Sound Liberation Di.J Quartet” is nothing short of surprises. So are you ready to dive into the diverse world of Sound Liberation and find out? Let’s go!!

The Di.J Quartet, is made up of Pritsker as the Digital Jockey (Di.J), along with trumpeter Peter Oswald, bassist Clemens Rofner, and drummer Simon Springer, demonstrating the band’s new approach to music-making. With a focus on Pritsker’s compositions, the group brings in this beautiful display of sounds, with samples from Edgard Varèse to amazing Broadway melodies, then infuse voices of blues singers from the early 20th century. This is something worth listening, I mean just look at the depth of creativity in there, it just gets you curious to see what’s in store for you and trust me, you’re gonna be blown away. Now let’s see what the album has for us with some few tracks, then I leave you to enjoy this instrumental soundtrack album.

Sparking the album to life is the opening track “The Overtures.” This track starts beautifully with this jazz beats and trumpets blending together, then you may get curious as to why the track starts that way, then as the song goes on, you get hooked with those trumpets interlude and just when you thought that’s it, the song takes a new turn and changes in beats and rhythm. Allowing this crazy jazz hip-hop like beats to take over with an up beat. Then now you’re addicted the you’re transported into another dynamic low tempo beats. Man this is creativity and innovation, the way the track starts, you may not even expect that sweet beauty of an ending. I love it and really keeps you entertained. From those pulsating beats to its complex melodies, the track sets the tone for the broad journey ahead. I love the way Pritsker manipulate those samples and grooves, creating an experience the listener can’t forget.

Another track on the album that strikes me hard is “Density Intensity”. This track also follows suit but this has an interesting curious beginning, then those crazy vocal samples of blues music hops in and draws your attention, leaving you to wander with the track while maintaining same Bpm, then the song takes a deep breath and a new display of sounds and beats are introduced, wow magical, you can’t love those trumpets less. If you listen carefully, you realize how every instrument is felt in there, with each offering something unique to build on. From its beautiful rhythms to its flying trumpet lines, “Density Intensity” just showcase the band’s ability to push musical boundaries while keeping it together without deviations.

Bring to what has been a beautiful journey to an end is the track “Deep Time 2.” This beautiful track is just an exploration of time and space. I love the way Pritsker use electronic effects and live instrumentation to create something that is deep and broad, it’s like a journey on the Broadway, the track gives off vibes that creates this image of the Broadway. I love the way it also sounds like a game soundtrack, that’s adventurous and complex, it can be like a Wildwest game or something like Contra, the track is amazing and those trumpets just makes it adorable. As the track goes on, you get to this place where it just gets interesting from minute 3:00 going, wow, the track just grows addicting and you can’t even stop listening and makes you repeat the whole album again. This is an album you can’t miss, from it’s complex composition to it’s beautiful layers of sounds then delivery, I say its a solid project of 10/10.

Well Sound Liberation has just created an album that’s both addictive and relatable, leaving room for the listener to embrace themselves into their world.
