I wonder what we would have done if music wasn’t created, the way sometimes music becomes our only friend that’s able to comfort, speak and tell us things we’d have expected people to tell us, is amazing. Sometimes we don’t even know what to do when our heart is torn into shreds, when life is whipping the F out of us, when we can’t seem to escape reality, then there’s music….hol up I’ve got this album here from The Screaming Pope, titled “Our Love is Music”. The brains behind this band is, the Techno Music Veteran George Bolton, a stalwart in the electronic music scene since 1979. Well it’s a no-brainer that you’re in for a treat, with a rich musical background that includes playing with, writing for, and doing session work for numerous bands. He also served as a Music Video Production assistant in the 80s and 90s and was an assistant Engineer at the Cars studio SyncroSound in Boston, Bolton brings a wealth of experience to his solo project.
The Screaming Pope is a solo project from George Bolton, with it dating back to 1979 when Bolton began his journey into the realm of Electronic Music. George Bolton is influenced by iconic acts like The Orb, William Orbit, and Orbital, whose influence are significantly experienced in his crafts. Well The Screaming Pope has graced notable venues such as The Pyramid and Brownies in Greenwich Village during the 80s and 90s. What’s beautiful is the experience he posses with how far he’s come with his music. He was even the frontman for Dresden Danse in that era. So just imagine the amount of creativity, experience and connection this album can bring to you the listener. This is a masterpiece that without doubt deserves your attention and listen. One may think, oh then we are gonna have nostalgic music here , well I’m here to tell you, George Bolton really evolved and being this unique twist and blends in his crafts, that takes the listener to a whole new experience and world. Haha let’s dive into the album which was recorded at George’s home studio in Boston, with three beautiful tracks, then I leave you to enjoy the rest and immerse yourself into the world of The Screaming Pope.
Setting the album on flames is this love track “Our Love Is Music.” This self titled song carries some kinda beat that I’ll repeat the whole day. Man, the beats are soo refined and you can hear every single element on the beat, what I love most about this song is, the vocals and those hip-hop like beats with modern blends that leaves you wanting for more. The song talks about the difficulties that comes with love, how complex it is with dealing with human relationships. The memories that comes with heartbreaks. When your partner is building bridges but closing the doors right behind them. Like if you don’t want me anymore just lemme go, don’t break ma heart to fix yours, man I felt that. The lyrics are deep and really gets you into the emotional feel of George. This is a perfect track to start the album and trust me after listening, you are just hooked for the rest of the album, there’s no going back.
Another wholesome track is “Sleeping Alone.” This track somes with a sweet turn, I love this album, in here Bolton captures essence of longing and solitude after a breakup. The song’s lyrics paint a painful portrait of heartache and those emotional vocals just adds extra layer of emotions into this track. It’s a song that lay emphasis on how, you wish your partner was with you. The thought of them being with someone else, or a known place you think they’d be there, hints at how you really wish they were still yours. Their memories, they appearing in your dreams only for you to wake up to an empty bed with you alone. The beats are magical, groovy and lures the listener into an atmosphere of self-reflection and vulnerability. This is definitely the best album I’ve listened to this month. Wow.
The last song I’m gonna share with you is the 11th song, “Fly With Me.” This is a track that has a very unique beat, I don’t know it has this afrobeats vibes, but unique and wow, The Screaming Pope is talented. This is music crafted from the very best of creativity, this song talks about deep affection and connection. Sometimes all you need is that moments with your partner, walking together, holding hands and enjoying the best of life. The electronic melodies on the beats here are very special and makes me love the track even more. This album is indeed a blend of genres and he killed it. See this is just three tracks, imagine the whole 15 tracks, there’s a song for everyone, so go grab this album by it neck and milk it. You won’t get something as good as this.
Our Love is Music, wow, despite the recording and production process, you can feel Bolton’s reflections on the songs and I love the surprises that came along, making the album a unique one and a must-listen masterpiece.
