3 min read

I know we can all agree on the fact that the world has really changed since the COVID-19 pandemic and whether or not anyone would like to accept it, there’s been new challenges and changes that have significantly changed our way of living and this new song from Ruiz! talks just about that and many more. Ruiz! is a very talented artist who originally comes from Barcelona but now stays in Sheffield and he takes us on a very amazing musical journey with his latest song “Stupid Old Git”. This new track is the result of Ruiz! combining different genres of music like 60’s rock’n’roll, electronica, punk, pop, psychedelia and dark rock, with just laptop, to make a song that talks about life, love and the challenges and new ways of living in a world after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Believe it or not, “Stupid Old Git” is actually the 10th song Ruiz! has released and it sets the stage and prepares Ruiz!’s fans for his second album he said will be releasing somewhere February next year. From the opening and the very first beat drop of “Stupid Old Git”, you can literally hear Ruiz!’s Iberian heritage in every single note with some influence of Sheffield’s music industry as well,  a city that is popularly known for giving birth to bands like The Arctic Monkeys. “Stupid Old Git” exudes an intriguing cocktail of ’60s-inspired psychedelia, drenched in lush harmonies and hypnotic guitars. It’s a delightful journey through pop and indie rock, seasoned with Ruiz!’s signature psychedelic touch. While it’s a departure from his previous synth-laden singles, it retains the irresistibly addictive melodies and captivating ’60s harmonies that are Ruiz!’s trademark.

Described as “Iberian Psych” by Sheffield’s Reverend Jon McClure, Ruiz! has already caught the attention of some very important and popular people in the music industry, including Tom Robinson’s Fresh on the Net and the BBC Introducing Mix-Tape. Steve Lamacq himself featured Ruiz!’s work on his BBC6 Music radio show. It’s a testament to the allure of Ruiz!’s music and the unique blend of genres he brings to the table.

The lyrics of “Stupid Old Git” dive into a narrative many can relate to. Ruiz! shares his musical take on an annoying, patronizing, and condescending character he once encountered. We’ve all come across one or two of those in our lives, haven’t we? Yes, sometimes these are the people you do the most for but in the end they up becoming a pain in the ass. Such people are really difficult to deal with but I’ve got just what you need in dealing with them and that’s Ruiz’s song “Stupid Old Git”. The song talks about how to deal with such individuals and it speaks Soo well and jamming to it.  Ruiz! began his musical journey during the peak of the pandemic, a time when the world grappled with uncertainty and isolation. In those challenging times, he found peace in creating DIY songs that reflect the essence of the modern era. His compositions are not only intelligent but also catchy. Each song has catchy beats with lyrics that are relatable that still plays in your head even after the song ends.

Ruiz!’s music offers a unique blend of sounds and experiences. In his own words, “Stupid Old Git” emerges as his most psychedelic track yet, evoking the spirits of legendary acts like The Beatles, Syd Barrett’s Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, and Beck.

So open your ears to “Stupid Old Git” and let the music wash over you. It’s a journey of sound, a fusion of cultures, and proof of the enduring power of music in even the most chaotic of times. ENJOY!!! Don’t forget to click on the links below for more info;
