“TALKIN’ BOUT A REVOLUTION” BY SIMON ANDERSSON: A CAPTIVATING COVER OF TRACY CHAPMAN’S CLASSIC

4 min read

When they say sometimes covers or renditions are better than the original songs I doubt mostly, but I think I’ve got the perfect track that actually makes me agree to that comment to an extent. Cos the way people sing covers like they created it themselves and then you get to realize the amount of diversity they also added, then you go like wow, you didn’t expect that and that’s what Simon Andersson has done on his rendition of Tracy Chapman’s “Talkin’ Bout A Revolution”. A song that pays respect to the timeless classic while adding his own unique style and passion, making the track even more addicting and intriguing, what a talent and how beautiful he has used it.

When you listen to the original track and this one from Simon, you realize how he was able to maintain the essence of Chapman’s original folk-pop masterpiece, while infusing his authenticity and sincerity, making it an amazing track that resonates with everyone deeply. What he did was to strip-down his approach, and recorded it live with the bare minimum, giving the track the raw emotional deal to give the listener the experience of a live performance. Man, you don’t get these good ones often, so when they come around make sure you savour it entirely. The song is amazing and captivating, and really lifts you up, give you hope and resilience to keep going. I know you may ask, but why the cover to this particular song? Well I can say it was important and timed right. Why? Well it actually coincided with Tracy Chapman’s recent return to the music scene. So paying homage to such a classical and also respecting Chapman’s enduring influence and the relevance of her message was just something one couldn’t let it pass by.

Now Simon Andersson’s cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Talkin’ Bout A Revolution” doesn’t deviate from the original, it follows the steps of the original but comes with his own personal twist and touch. And that makes it beautiful and amazing. When you listen to the song, you realize how the lyrics talks about we yearn for change in a world that is filled with oppression, struggles and frustrations. We all want change but we are all also part of the problem, change starts from you and a revolution starts from you. So if you want a change, begin from yourself and that is the desire and urge the song pushes you through. Let’s not just talk about it and stand by watching that someone else will come change it. Change starts from you, we all want salvation but what are we doing looking at those struggling without helping them? Are we gonna watch and see if there’s a magic that will happen? Don’t just talk about change, be the change and make things better, don’t just talk about a revolution. Don’t waste time, right for it and see everyone join in. It’s a song that keeps your spirit high, and let you enjoy every moment of hope. The beats, wow, it actually complements the song, because it consumes you and lifts you up and put you in this imaginary atmosphere where everything is okay and everyone’s happy and you just blasting this song out and everyone’s jamming and dancing to the tune of the song. Such creativity is what we call talent and this is wholesome from Simon Andersson. But what’s unique about Andersson’s version is how it captures the urgency and emotions of Chapman’s message, while blending each line with authenticity and sincerity. Then as the song goes on, you realize how Andersson’s vocals rings through your ears and soothes it with conviction, sending the message hope and determination evident in Chapman’s lyrics.

Well to me, I can say this is one of the best covers and the best song to see you through your week. “Talkin’ Bout A Revolution” by Simon Andersson is just magical and powerful, even tho the song pays respect to Tracy Chapman’s timeless classic, it also just captures your attention the moment you hit that play button. He didn’t miss, he actually nailed and it’s the best song to put you through the week. So go ahead and give this beauty of a song a listen and enjoy you week. ENJOY!!
