3 min read

Life can be cruel and sometimes situations gets people in addictions they can’t deal with and over dependency on them worsens it. Like being a in a toxic relationship that is dying and you realize how you need your partner’s affirmation to feel good. What does that becomes? An addiction and over dependency, it’s like you can’t do without them and you need them to make you feel better, what if what they say is not what they actually mean? And that feeling is what this song titled “Need Me” by The Monitors, led by bassist Sam Feinstein, has for us. The track goes deep into the realm of brooding synth-rock, putting together catchy hooks, atmospheric synthesizers, and rock guitar to create an intriguing musical experience. So get ready to explore the depths of addiction mixed with toxicity and over dependency through this rollercoaster ride with “Need Me”.

Now this song was actually crafted from the perspective of addiction, which touches on themes of a struggling toxic relationship, where love and dependency intertwine with hints of abuse. Man the calm nature of the song, makes this track strikes your soul with some deep emotions, it paints this image where you’re left alone in a corner to ponder on the things that have gone wrong, on why it’s always you, on why your partner can’t treat you better, you’re left alone to tear down and go through the pain alone. It’s crazy and the tone and voice breaking experience in there even makes it like a wine you never wanna stop drinking. As the song goes on you realize how elite Feinstein’s songwriting abilities are. Then you realize how the lyrics are evocative and plead for affirmation and loyalty, while also acknowledging the destructive nature of the relationship. Then as the song goes on you hear lines like “say you love me, say you need me, say you’ll never leave me”, hinting at how desperate you yearn for validation, mixed with the underlying toxicity portrayed through lines like “I’ll never let you go” and “try to leave before but I will cut you off easy.” Jeez, it’s some deep shit out here, that speaks volumes of how much power your partner have over you. “Need Me” is a deep emotional song that draws inspiration from both Pink Floyd and Weezer, with the way it infuses elements of classic rock with modern synth-pop features. When you start listening you see how the song’s brooding atmosphere is raised by haunting synthesizer melodies and driving guitar riffs, which creates this atmosphere of tension and urgency that goes on to show the emotional detail the lyrics puts on.

Well what I can say is, whatever happens in life, never settle for a toxic love, never fuck up by letting your partner know the power they have over you, don’t let them manipulate you and don’t settle for less. To me “Need Me” goes on to show The Monitors’ ability to merge catchy pop hooks with introspective lyrics and atmospheric instrumentation, delivered with top notch production, big ups to ma man Feinstein, you cooked this one. So why don’t you go ahead and put this song on repeat for your weekend and experience the destructive power love can have. ENJOY!! Make sure to check him out on the links below for more;
